Steve Saka, owner of Dunbarton Tobacco & Trust (as well as being among the most respected tobacco gurus in the space of craft cigars), launched Sin Compromiso as his most premium core-line brand under the Dunbarton banner in 2018. The cigar's name had previously served as the motto of Dunbarton since the company's debut in 2015, translating from Spanish to mean Without Compromise, outlining Saka's dedication to perfection.
Not surprisingly, this dedication is best evidenced in the Sin Compromiso cigar, described by Saka himself as “my best liga ever.” This special blend dates back three years prior to the cigar's eventual release, as every leaf in the blend was grown specifically for this project. All-Nicaraguan leaves are chosen for the filler, which were harvested from a singular, select plantation. This core is then bound in an unusually thin ligero priming grown in Ecuador—a hybridized Habano-seed leaf. But the wrapper is the star ingredient, featuring a lush Mexican San Andrés Negro leaf. This wrapper is styled after a technique borrowed from Japanese melon growers, where all but one blossom are removed from the vine, directing all nutrients to a single melon and making for bizarrely flavorful "super melons." Likewise, all but the top eight leaves are removed from the tobacco plant at an early stage, making for supremely dense and concentrated flavor as an end result.
Sin Compromiso is a high-intensity smoking experience for the die-hard enthusiast. Smokers can expect a luxurious performance that is layered in complexity. The profile largely centers around earth and mineral components, being backed by cream, leather, and smoked hardwoods. If you are a cigar snob or aficionado, this is a must-have line of cigars.
