San Lotano is a brand near and dear to Master Blender A.J. Fernández's heart, being the name of the cigar made by his grandfather in Cuba prior to Castro's takeover of private industry. In 2010, Fernández resurrected the line with his own take on the San Lotano cigar. In the years following, he has expanded the line to include a wide range of smoking experiences, as well as giving one of his Nicaraguan tobacco farms and a factory in Ocotal the San Lotano name.
One such cigar is the San Lotano Maduro (aka San Lotano Requiem Maduro), a dark and savory concoction that makes use of a Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers of Nicaragua and Honduras. This is a medium-strength blend that caters to smooth, dessert-like nuances of black pepper spice, oily black coffee, cocoa, salted caramel, and lasting cream through the finish.
