In 2013, Rocky Patel introduced the high-end RP Platinum, a sophisticated blend that boasted a select wrapper and Nicaraguan tobaccos from the company's own farms in Nicaragua.
The problem was, Rocky had a difficult time making the call on the final blend, moving back and forth between a dark Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper and a lighter Ecuadorian Habano leaf. The maduro-hued leaf won out, but Rocky later decided to roll the cigar with the natural-shade Ecuador Habano leaf as well—introducing the Rocky Patel Platinum Limited Edition.
Both blends feature the same filler ingredients, being Nicaraguan in the filler and Mexican San Andrés in the binder. This makes for quite the interesting experiement for those that have obtained both versions of the rare Platinum cigar. Smoke them back to back and you will see how a subtle wrapper change can affect the entire smoking experience! For the RP Platinum Limited Edition, the rusty red-hued wrapper aids the cigar in offering a medium-plus body, showing deep flavors of black and red pepper, barnyard, earth, a Cubanesque muskiness, and subtle cabinet spices of cinnamon and nutmeg.
