Despite being deeply involved in the world of premium tobacco since 1865, the Plasencia family hadn't truly made the leap into the branding side (primarily being known for tobacco agriculture and manufacturing throughout their history) until the introduction of Plasencia Cigars in 2016, kicking the brand off with the insta-hit Alma Fuerte cigar.
In the years following, the Alma Series has grown to include a wide range of smoking experiences, including a lighter-wrapped spinoff of the original Alma Fuerte cigar, dubbed Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro. The blend debuted in 2021 with the family's signature hexagonally-pressed gordo size, slowly expanding over the years to include added options for cigar hobbyists, such as the larger-than-robusto-sized Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Robustus II cigar.
What does the Plasencia Alma Fuerte Colorado Claro Robustus II cigar taste like?
Don't let the name fool you, the Robustus II is more like a cross between a gordo and toro, weighing in at 5⅛" x 55. In terms of blend, the cigar features a similar recipe to the famed Alma Fuerte original. This includes Nicaraguan leaves throughout the wrapper, binder, and filler; however, the dark Jalapa wrapper of the original Alma Fuerte has been replaced with a lighter leaf (also from Jalapa) that was aged for 10 years. This makes for a more delicate smoking experience, being naturally sweet and aromatic, with standout notes of cedar, almonds, florals, and natural honey.
