With the ubiquitous nature of Perdomo Cigars found in humidors across the country, it may come as somewhat of a surprise to find that the brand celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2012. Indeed, Nick Perdomo Jr. quit his job and created Perdomo Cigars out of his garage in 1992! Of course, this move was not on a whim, as the Perdomo family traces its roots in premium tobacco back to San José de las Lajas, Cuba in the early 1930s. With the experienced guidance of Nick’s father (Nick Perdomo Sr.), whom began his tobacco training in Cuba in 1948 (like his father before him), Perdomo climbed the ranks among cigar smokers and is now among the largest manufacturers of premium cigars in Nicaragua.
As is tradition in the world of premium cigars, the Perdomos celebrated their impressive, 20th anniversary with a special smoking experience. Introducing Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro, an exciting blend of 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos for the discerning enthusiast. For the Perdomo 20th Anniversary, two blends were crafted—a maduro and a Sun Grown variant. Each blend begins with the same core recipe, showcasing some of the Perdomo’s finest tobaccos in their possession. High-priming leaves of Nicaragua’s Estelí, Jalapa, and Condega regions have been chosen, with the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Maduro being finished in a special Nicaraguan Broadleaf wrapper that has been extra fermented, cedar aged, and barrel aged in used bourbon barrels for 14-plus months prior to rolling!
This is a special blend that manages to deliver a silky smooth smoking texture in a surprisingly full-strength package. Expect rich notes of coffee beans, chocolate, cabinet spices, and woody notes of cedar and oak. The body is perhaps a bit strong for the novice, however, the price is more affordable than the top-shelf tobaccos would let on; making it an easy call to give this blend a try and see if it suits your palate.
