The story of the Melanio begins with the Oliva Serie V, first launching in 2007 as the company's strongest, most luxurious smoking experience in their portfolio. This blend, a full-bodied Nicaraguan puro, was then followed by the Serie V Melanio, boasting more select tobaccos within the filler and an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. The cigars were named for Melanio Oliva, a cigar aficionado, and the first member of the Oliva family to become involved with the world of premium cigars, growing tobacco in Cuba during the 1800s.
Enter the Oliva Serie V Melanio Maduro cigar, a choice blend that makes use of the same acclaimed interior of the original Melanio. This consists of Nicaraguan tobaccos primarily from the country's northernmost Jalapa growing region, known for imparting depth and sweetness. This core of the cigar is then wrapped in dark Mexican San Andrés maduro wrapper, making for a familiar experience with a fun twist. The end result is full in body and deep in flavor, showing elements of toasted oak, bitter-sweet espresso, molasses bread, milk chocolate, and sweet toffee candy.
