In celebration of the H. Upmann brand's monumental 175th anniversary, a special smoking experience was contracted by A.J. Fernández—arguably the most acclaimed cigarmaker in the modern era of premium cigars.
Fernández did not take such an honor lightly, setting out to craft an ultra-premium smoking experience worthy of the occasion. This included a Nicaraguan puro recipe, harvested from his own farms throughout Nicaragua. But the pièce de résistance is a unique medio tiempo wrapper. This leaf is said to grow on only one in 12 plants on Fernández's farms, sprouting above the ligero priming (conventionally the top tobacco priming). This leaf is more dense and potent than ligero, requiring proprietary fermenting techniques to prepare the leaf for wrapper use on the H. Upmann 175 Anniversary.
All told, the Churchill-sized cigar is rich and concentrated on the palate, offering a medium-plus to medium-full overall intensity. The highly calculated flavor profile receives the spotlight, brimming with long-lasting flavors of mocha, espresso, baker's cocoa, toasted oak, and sweet brown sugar.
