Hoyo de Monterrey’s Excalibur line revolves around Medieval themes, offering a regal appearance and sophisticated smoking experiences fit for a king! For the Excalibur 1066 (now referred to as the Excalibur Cameroon), Hoyo focused on the Battle of Hastings—circa 1066 A.D.—in which William the Conqueror led the Norman-French army to victory over the Anglo-Saxons.
Despite the brand’s noble heritage, this blend is sometimes referred to as “the people’s choice,” as it was chosen as the winning blend when parent company General Cigar Co. sent samples to cigar smokers to decide their next release. The decision was unanimous and the Excalibur 1066 went into production.
As is proudly displayed on the cigar’s band, Excalibur utilizes the highly-coveted Cameroon tobacco for the wrapper. This is balanced by a gritty, USA Connecticut Broadleaf binder and given a backdrop of complexity from filler tobaccos of a whopping three countries (Dominican, Nicaraguan, and Honduran). The resulting smoking experience is astonishingly rich and flavorful for the cigar’s affordable price point. Spicy flavors from the unique Cameroon wrapper are backed by earth and leather from the USA binder, with sweet, lemon grass complexities from the filler providing a long and satisfying finish.
