Remember the fairytale of The Three Little Pigs? It’s a story with metaphors of hard work, time, and effort applied towards a rewarding future. But it’s also—more importantly—the perfect introduction to one of our favorite bang-for-your-buck cigars!
Just as the third pig’s house was built to withstand the wolf’s attacks, using bricks instead of straw or sticks (seriously, pigs 1 and 2? Do some research next time…), the Brick House cigar brand was built to last during the difficult era of the Great Recession. But this “daily grinder” cigar actually dates much further back, with company founder Julius Caeser Newman starting the business in 1895! He then introduced the Brick House brand in 1937, modeled after his childhood brick-built home in Hungary.
Seventy-two years after this Cuban puro hit the market, J.C. Newman’s nostalgic vision was revived, with grandsons Bobby and Eric Newman reintroducing Brick House and the values it represents to cigar smokers—this time showcasing a more appropriate blend (for the current political climate) of 100% Nicaraguan tobaccos wrapped in Ecuadorian Habano. Brick House quickly achieved critical acclaim, earning high ratings and a place within Cigar Aficionado’s Top 25 Cigars of 2010 (as well as a more recent ranking among their list for 2016). The cigars are beloved by hobbyists for their astonishingly low price and high value—starting as low as the $4 range!
This is a classic smoking experience that can easily be enjoyed any time of day, with a brunch coffee being especially ideal. The cigar is medium-bodied, showcasing a perfect draw, reliable construction, and easily enjoyable flavors of coffee, caramel, and light spices.
