Avanti Cigars was established when the Suraci Brothers' love of cigars became a business opportunity in 1925. It was at this time that they began producing their best-rated cigars as the State Leaf Company. They then went on to purchase an existing Jersey City cigar factory that was originally established in 1916 and had previously been owned and run by a wealthy Genoese family. Once the Suraci Brothers' purchased the factory, the company was then renamed “Parodi Cigar Company of New York”, and it thrived in New York from 1925 to 1929.
After World War II the Suraci Brothers’ went on to purchase its largest competitor, De Nobili Cigar Co. of Long Island City, N.Y. In 1970 the signature Avanti Cigar, flavored with an anisette tip, was introduced. It went on to become the company’s premier brand and one of its best-rated cigars. This style of cigar was so successful that the Parodi Cigar Group was reorganized as the Avanti Cigar Company. Avanti Cigars remains the only producer of dry-cured cigars in the United States up to this day.
